I can’t figure out what’s going on with the name of this establishment. Their sign says “Eh! Formaggio”, their website says the name is “Da Big Formaggio”, and their web address is dabigcheese.com. If anyone knows what the story is here, I’d love to hear it. Regardless, they should have stuck with “Eh Formaggio” because that’s exactly what it is–just “eh”.
When I walked in, there was much microwaving going on. It appeared that everything was pre-made and reheated in either the brick oven or microwave when an order was placed. To be fair, there were no pizzas being made at that time; I can only assume that pizzas are not baked until ordered. The breadsticks were dry and cold and had the taste and texture of day old bread. The garlic rolls were quite tasty, but unfortunately also the victim of microwaving, giving them an overly chewy texture. I can imagine that fresh from the oven, these rolls would be to die for.
Because I was so put off by the lack of fresh preparation, I chose not to order a pizza and instead ordered “Da Big Vick“, a vegetarian sub. I figured that since all the ingredients were raw, it was the only way to get a freshly prepared meal. I was right about that, but disappointed in the actual sandwich. The bread, like the breadsticks, tasted like it was leftover from yesterday. The combination of veggies and sauce described on the menu sounded delicious; however the sub was so over-dressed with balsamic vinegar, that’s all I could taste.
Perhaps I should have tried the pizza after all. But if they can’t get subs and breadsticks right, how good can the pizza be?
